However, I discovered a couple facts that are not so obvious I think. These points also map perfectly to reflections along the axes of the creases themselves. In essence, many points on the origami paper map to the same point in 3D space. So if you make a flat folded origami, and you take a pin and poke a hole completely through it, through every layer, and open it up, you'll see that there are multiple holes in the paper. So, for example, a paper crane without the wings. In a physical sense, this is a type of origami that can be folded flat, pressed between the pages of a book. I think that's enough talking about the past.

I don't really know why it's like that, but it definitely is.Īight. If you sum up the amount of mountain and valley fold segments coming out of any vertex, they will always differ by two.All flat folded origami is non-directed and complete. These places of union are called vertexes and the graph of all fold segments on the paper, including the edges of the paper, is called a fold diagram The ends of the segments either end at an edge of the paper or at the end of another fold segment. They come in 2 flavors: mountain and valley. Fold segments are straight lines that represent part of a fold.Notable things that I'm keeping un-debunked: The fold tree was a nice idea, but constructions using it can only create a subset of all origami, so it's not what I'm looking for.It falls apart when you have more than 4 fold segments touching a vertex The idea that folds only reflect is another screwy one.The idea that you can keep track of where they are and which way they're going would be way to hard, and you could conceivably connect everything under one fold, since all origami crease diagrams are Hamiltonian. The idea that a fold is a collection of fold segments in order starts falling apart after you do certain folds, like petal folds. For clarity and completeness, though, here's a list of why everything last post was wrong: Which might seem strange, cause most of it made sense. All of that was very observation-based, and is actually incorrect in almost every way. You can safely disregard most everything I said last post. As such, there are several chips and paint scuffs.Īlso, I am only posting a few pictures here (and perhaps I'll do a second post with pictures if there is any interest), but if anyone would like to see more, I have a link to allot more photos at my Age of Legends site.First things first. This dungeon is 2 years old and has seen its fair share of wear and tear. I figured, while I was at it, I'd see if there was any interest in the topic here, and that's how I found this thread. Well, the other day there was a discussion at the Obsidian Portal on 3-D dungeon terrain and I decided to take some pictures of my dungeons to contribute to that thread. Well, this is not a map, but a couple of years back I purchased some castleworks molds from Hirst Arts and made a couple of Dungeons form one of my campaigns.

I do have quite a bit of fold-up paper scenery (mostly from Worldworks Games) but I'm not counting that in scenery unless you guys are. The asteroid bases are made in a similar manner, with bits of ships stuck on. The asteroids are styrofoam spheres, scrunched by hand into interesting shapes, and then covered in dirt and drybrushed.

The moon is a styrofoam ball with craters melted in with a soldering iron, then Mod Podged, sanded, and painted. The airless terrestrial planet is a styrofoam ball covered in many layers of Mod Podge and sanded then painted. The gas giants are made from styrofoam spheres covered in papier-mâché, sanded, and painted. Next are some planets, designed to be used with Battlefleet Gothic. The walls are made of various bits of packing. Most use foamcore as a base with corrugated cardboard glued on to shape the landform. So here we have several 40K-style terrain pieces.

Mods, if there's a better place for this please feel free to close/move/vanish this thread. I've done a few pieces so I'll start it off. Grignard ( intro) and others might post some pics of their gaming terrain.
